I worked my ass off for weeks taking vocal lessons and practicing daily to lock down every note for the final album version, and at the end they used this, my nasally scratchy drunken demo take recorded in Jeremy’s bedroom on an SM58 mic instead. They (Chris and the band) thought it sounded “badass” (I later insisted we bury my vocal in effects to make it sound less nasally). This was probably the first time we played back a demo and realized we no longer hated the way we sounded. It must have been one of the first sessions with Chris Peterson because that feedback at the final countdown isn’t a guitar, but Bill Leeb’s ARP 2600 bleeping an error in the arpeggio sequence.
